Encourage A Love Of Reading In Your Children With Popular Childrens Books
One of the most important things a parent can do for their children is to read to them on a daily basis from before they're even old enough to understand the story. Holding a child on your lap and reading a book together is a great bonding experience and shows children that you place importance on both your time with them, as well as time spent with an open book in front of you.
Every good parent wants their child to grow up enjoying reading, but many still struggle to make this dream a reality. What's important to remember is that children need to learn to love books before they ever learn how to read, or even recognize their alphabet. Learning about the new world that opens to them in books, even just in picture books, is an important element that will make them interested in reading books in the future, to discover what world the book will take them into this time.
Another very important thing to remember is that children need to be presented with a variety of different types of books. Books with different kinds of illustrations, different types of stories, and different genres of literature. When they are young they should learn to love them all, and as they grow older and start reading books and novels for themselves will be better rounded readers.
A great way to start is to have a variety of different children's books in your home from the time your child is an infant. There are many popular children's books that every home should be stocked with. These are a great starting point, but it's also important to choose lesser known books to read to your child.
As your child grows you can encourage enjoyment of books by keeping up on popular children's books titles. Although it's a good idea to have a lot of books in your home, you can never have too many, and making regular trips to the library for new reading material is a very good idea, and an excellent way to keep up on what are the latest, as well as the most classically popular childrens books.
When a parent takes time out of every day to take their child into the world of books, it will always become a favorite time for children. Although there are times a toddler will refuse to actually listen to the story, insisting instead on turning the pages rapidly and looking at the pictures, most reading parents are rewarded by seeing their children open up and “read” books to themselves, often before they can even talk.
If you want your children to develop a love of reading, don't underestimate the need to read to them from infancy! Be sure to always have books around, both popular childrens books, as well as lesser-known titles. Providing variety, quantity as well as making time for reading every day will go a very long way in helping your child develop a love of reading early on, that will last them (and bless them!) throughout their life.
