How Buy Childrens Books For Less

With a slow economy families all over the U.S. are trying to finds ways to cut back on expenses without sacrificing their quality of life.   Spending time together as a family has once again become their primary focus.  Reading is a great way to spend quality time with your kids without spending money.


A stale book collection brings little enjoyment to the family. Keep your collection interesting by adding newer books regularly. New books can easily cost ten to twenty dollars even for a young child’s book.

Instead of paying these high retail prices for your book you can find them for less online. You can also find great used books online or at yard sales. The adventure of finding your newest books can add to their enjoyment.

If the newest book in your collection has to be a brand new book that just came out this month expect to pay close to retail prices for it even on line. If you can wait a few months then that price can be cut nearly in half when bought online.

This happens because as local book stores scramble to stock enough copies of the latest books they will usually over buy. As time goes on they need to get rid of this inventory to make room for the upcoming new releases.

Someone comes along and buys these books for pennies on the dollar and passes some of the savings on to you. You will also start finding used copies available at places like Ebay and amazon.com as people read the book then list it for sale.

If you don’t care how old or new a book is you will find many great children’s books available at yard sales, thrift store, and in classified listings. Most of the time these books won’t be brand new, but they can be in gently used condition.

Depending on how well a book has been cared for and how often it has been read an old book can be in exceptional shape. You may even find rare gems that have never been read or were published very recently.

When you go shopping at a yard sale or in a thrift store you and your children should consider it a treasure hunt. Try to find books that interest your children and negotiate the price if you feel it is too high.

It is not uncommon to be able to buy childrens books for twenty-five cents or even as little as ten cents. You might find a book that was printed the year your child was born, you were born, or one of your favorites from when you were a child. No matter what books you actually by the hunt will be half the fun.
